Another day, another Wordle answer eluding you - that's why we're here, helping you find the solution each and every day so you don't need to worry about losing that streak.
We've found puzzle #257's solution - so rather than you needing to cheat to get the answer, why not take a look at our two-line hints? Most people we've tested them on have come away with the clue they needed, and in our eyes, that counts as the streak.

We've got bad news: today's puzzle is a little bit tricky, mostly because it's got one of the less-common letter combinations inside it. Where recently we've used CH and ST, both hugely popular... today, it's one that many people won't leap to.
However, these ideas may help:
- There are two vowels next to each other
- RN appears at the end.
Today, we managed it in three attempts, and that was because we luckily started with a word that had on the N at the end, with an R in the middle (BRAIN). Once you consider R and N could go together, it narrows the focus nicely.

One of our favorites is WordFinderX, which allows you to put in letters at the start and the end if you know them and, crucially: allows you to enter any letters that don’t fit.
Started to take advantage of the Words with Friends craze, this website has blatantly had a huge rise in traffic of late, but it really does do the job.
You can also try WordTips, which does the same thing but with a slightly kinder UI. We also like The Free Dictionary, but that only lets you use 'contains', 'ends with' or 'starts with' - as well as 'unscramble'.
And finally - check out this useful grid that shows the hottest letter pairings - it can really help focus your mind on what might go where, and helps us know if the puzzle is tricky or not.

OK, here you go: today's Wordle answer for puzzle #257. If you've come this far, you know that it's necessary.
Great stuff. We're here for you - today's Wordle answer is MOURN. Far more popular in the 1800s, it's seen a small resurgence since 1980 in literature - but that doesn't mean it's going to be easy for today.
We got lucky by going for BRAIN first - in our attempts to guess the word at the first time, we've been avoiding the best Wordle starting words in a (vain) struggle in favor of those that fit the patterns.
Having the R floating and the N at the end, we thought they looked good together - trying SHORN says our hunch was good. However, it was lucky, as that's an uncommon pairing.
From there, we had the O in the wrong place. And it couldn't go next to the RN. So that means it has to join another vowel, as that's the only thing that could go in front of RN. From there, it was an easy jump to MOURN.
Oh, and what's the definition of MOURN? Well, it usually refers to the action of grief when someone dies, traditionally at a funeral:
Dave mourned the death of his hamster.
It can also be related to the demise of something, describing the regret of its absence:
Dave mourned the change in taste in his gobstopper, after he went through the apple flavour layer.
How did you do?
Well done for being great at Wordle - it's only an anomaly that you didn't get it today straight away.
But how did you do with answer #255? Well, it was the rather tricky RUPEE - and the @WordleStats account suggests that twice as many people as usual failed to get it at all, with a larger-than-usual amount only managing it on the sixth attempt.
However, if you got it in four or less, you're a Wordle champ.
